RoHS Compliant CABLE ASSEMBLIES

As a result of recent legislation in Europe, known as Restriction of use of certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS), all companies producing, importing, exporting, and selling electrical equipment into the EU, that fall within definitions and categories listed in EUC Directive 2002/95/EC, will be required to comply with concentration limits set forth for:

1. Lead (Pb),
2. Mercury (Hg),
3. Cadmium (Cd),
4. Hexavalent Chromium (Cr+6),
5. Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB, flame retardant in plastics), and
6. Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE, flame retardant in plastics).

Cable and Harness Assemblies

All of the six restricted substances in the RoHS Directive can be found in the insulation, tinning, solder, connectors, and terminations commonly used in cable and harness assemblies. Therefore, component and wire specification and selection are critical to meeting the concentration limits for these substances.
